Goal Setting Mindset
1. The importance of self esteem and PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) in Goal Setting and Time Management.
As we were growing up, you can say we were basically a product of our environment. Until we were about 7 years old our minds are programmed to accept things at face value.
We heard things such as “Don’t do that.”, “Stop”, “We can’t afford that.”, and the list goes on and on.
Now this doesn’t make us bad people, it’s just the way it is. All of us go through this part of life.
When we get to about 7 years old, we start to develop the habit of consciously deciding what thoughts to accept and which ones to reject.
Unfortunately, by this time there can be some real damage done. This doesn’t mean we should be mad at the people who brought us up, they were only dealing with us the best way they knew how at the time.
With that said, there certainly comes a time when we need to take responsibility for our own lives. And we need to start to become consciously aware of the thoughts in our mind. We have to pay very close attention what we are thinking.
For example, if you find a reoccurring event in your life that isn’t quite working for you, it means that there is a thought pattern rolling around in your mind that keeps causing this to happen to you.
It’s not an outside source.
It’s the thoughts you have within you that cause the events that are happening outside of you.
Now this is a hard pill to swallow. But it’s true.
What we accept as fact becomes our reality. It’s up to us to make sure it’s a positive reality. If you accept that you can only do a certain thing than that becomes your reality. Big or Small.
“Whether you believe you can or you can’t, either way your right.” – Henry Ford
This is where self esteem and a Positive Mental Attitude comes into play.
To truly accomplish your goals in life you must:
#1 believe you can
#2 be able to maintain a Positive Mental Attitude to get you past the roadblocks you will face.
2. Look into the origination of our thoughts and how they effect us in our daily life, without us even being aware of it.
Now that we know that our thought shape our future, it’s time to unearth and clean up some old thoughts that are holding us back.
I call these anchors.
The best ways to find these anchors is to look at unpleasant events that keep occurring in your life.
For example, if you find yourself on the roller coaster weight program that a lot of people do there is a thought pattern that is causing this to happen.
A simple thought that we picked up a child may be “Clean your plate.” Now this simple thought could be a cause to some weight gain.
Well, there are a lot of these simple thoughts we have in our minds that effect our lives everyday.
What anchors do you have that keep causing unpleasantness in your life?
We need to find these anchors and then cut the rope. Now these anchors are going to be different for everyone.
Once you start to become aware of these limiting thoughts you will get a feeling of liberation. It’s an amazing feeling.
Now what do you do with this anchor when you find it.
#1 – You need to isolate the thought and look at the effect it’s been having on your life.
#2 – You need to substitute a positive more empowering thought, through constant repetition. Say it over and over to yourself.
Now it takes conscious and continuous effort and to make this new thought stick and become a habit.
With this new thought process you should start to see things change.
“Act is the blossom of thought, and joy and suffering are its
fruits; thus does a man garner in the sweet and bitter fruitage of his own husbandry.” – James Allen
3. Finding your purpose and the reason why purposeful living will lead your life to peaks you never thought you could achieve.
Once we isolate our limiting thoughts and start taking action to change these limiting thoughts, it’s time to start focusing on finding our purpose on this earth.
Our purpose on this earth is going to come disguised as the things we like and enjoy doing.
Things we would do whether we get paid for them or not.
Now the key is to find a way to profit from these things.
Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t feel they can do this. Now here we go again with a limiting thought.
We owe it to ourselves and others to find ways of profiting from the things we enjoy to do.
Some actually feel it’s stealing from others when we are not living our purpose.
And taking a deeper look at it, we will find that it’s also a huge waste of time to be working or doing something that we don’t find we find no joy in.
Once we focus on living our life for a purpose it makes Goal Setting and Time Management very easy.
Composer, sculptor, painter, poet, prophet, sage–these are
the makers of the after-world, the architects of heaven. The world is beautiful because they have lived. Without them, laboring humanity would perish. – James Allen
Action Plan –
1. Focus your conscious mind on your thoughts. What thoughts keep you from accomplishing the things you want in your life? What anchors are keeping you from from moving forward?
2. Replace you limiting thoughts with positive, empowering thoughts. Remember repetition is the key. Do it over and over again.
3. Find your purpose. What would you do even if your weren’t getting paid for it. What hobby’s do you have? What absorbs you? What is it that you do, that when you do it, you say to yourself, “Where did the time go?” This is where you find your purpose.
