One of my mentors, Jim Rohn, often talks about personal philosophy.
Or what is the philosophy that works in your back ground that governs the way you respond to the trials of life?
When you are faced with a bad situation, do you react or respond?
Reaction meaning that there is very little, if any, thought between what happens and what you do? This may be a situation, that someone would consider “flying off the handle.”
Where “Response” is when you actually evaluate the situation before you do anything.
Lets examine this situation…
You are out to eat and the waitress you happen to get is really cold and rude. Now this is the first time that you have ever seen this woman. Now for some people, if you are in secure with yourself, may think why is this woman treating ME this way, I’ve never even seen her before. And they end up leaving this woman a very small tip as a reaction to the situation.
Now a different response may be to NOT take this woman’s actions as personal.
After all you never even met her. You may think to yourself, I wonder what is bothering this woman. Most people don’t act like this unless something is bothering this person. Maybe she has a sick child or parent. Who knows… And they end up leaving her a more generous tip. It may be enough to turn her around for the day. And if not, you always end up getting back what YOU put out anyway, so you might as well make it positive.
Regardless of which situation you may use it comes out of your personal philosophy.
And as my mentor would say, you need to examine the facts and become a product of your own conclusions.
As Always, Here’s to Your LifetoSuccess,
John Clark
