If you live in the US, you are certainly being bombarded with sound clips of the promises of the potential presidential\u00a0candidates. You are also getting a little mud slinging going on as well.<\/p>\n
I, for one, am amazed by all of this. You have some of the candidates claiming racism if their integrity is called into question and another claiming sexism.<\/p>\n
While all of them are claiming to make changes to make your life better by making others do things to help you become a happier American.<\/p>\n
The unfortunate thing about this is that this is a fundamental flaw in the American culture.<\/p>\n
The “something for nothing”\u00a0phenomenon.<\/p>\n
The problem with this is that you never get anything for nothing. There is always a price to be paid for anything you receive.<\/p>\n
If you receive something from a political change it generally comes packaged with regulations that strip away the freedom we have taken for granted up to this point.<\/p>\n
Or even worse than that is that it comes from redistribution of wealth. Taking from the wealthy to give to the poor. This is by far the worse thing that can happen.<\/p>\n
The fact is the people who are wealthy are wealthy for a reason. They are prosperity conscious. And the have sound business structures that are not dictated by cost but by profit.<\/p>\n
Let me explain:<\/p>\n
Cost of Goods: $100<\/p>\n
Profit (15%): 15<\/p>\n
Cost to Consumer: $115<\/p>\n
Now as the cost goes up, the business will make more money. No matter where this cost comes from, whether it is by raising taxes on the business, raising minimum wage or cost of supplies.<\/p>\n
Cost of Goods: $150<\/p>\n
Profit (15%): $22.50<\/p>\n
Cost to Consumer: $172.50<\/p>\n
One of the common headlines you’ll hear now a days is how oil companies are making record profits. The above illustration is how this happens.<\/p>\n
Now the question you have to wrestle with is: Is this a good model or a bad model?<\/p>\n
Should the business be made to use those profits to help those less fortunate?<\/p>\n
My answer is no.<\/p>\n
If someone is made to do something it takes away the dignity of both the helper and the receiver of the help.<\/p>\n
See it’s my belief that the happiness of the individual is the responsible of the individual. Once you rely on something outside of yourself to make you happy, you have given up your freedom. And once something has been given to you it can be taken away.<\/p>\n
This is not freedom at all.<\/p>\n
