One of the biggest challenges we face in this world we live in is our ability to filter out… “THE NOISE!”
The noise is all of the messages we are distracted with everyday.
Sources of the noise include:
1. Any news on any station
2. Any radio news, this can also include talk radio (This is a hard one for me because I find myself to be more conservative and I liked several of the shows that on)
3. TV shows, movies, and Sitcoms
4. Any commercial TV
5. Almost any magazine you find around the check out stand in the grocery store
6. Well meaning friends, family and co-workers
Now you may be saying to yourself, “John, what I am going to do? That’s just about every thing out there.”
Well it’s my opinion that all this well defined, systematized noise is keeping you broke. As long as you are paying attention to the noise.
The one thing to remember is that everything is run on value exchange. If you are constantly paying attention to the noise, you are being bombarded by a string of constant commercial messages design to extract money from you wallet.
If you are constantly watching the news and listening to the radio, you are being bombarded with messages that show how unfair everything is. The unfair distribution of wealth and income, what Britney Spears and Paris Hilton are up to.
How if the democrats get into office, they will tax people who make more money to help those with less.
How if the republicans get into office they will lower taxes to help spur the economy and make the economy better.
All this noise does is take you away from becoming more valuable. And remember everything is a value exchange. You exchange what you have of value for something that you want that has a value.
The more valuable you become, the more of value you can get.
But the key is for you to start to become more valuable. And if you are constantly falling prey to the noise you take away valuable time to become more valuable. And this is time you will not get back.
My mentor, Jim Rohn, says “Time is more valuable than money, you can always make more money, but you can’t make more time.”
If we allow ourselves to get distracted by the noise we are taking away from time to make ourselves more valuable.
Being distracted by the noise is a habit we have developed from the time we were kids, when our well meaning parents put us in front of the tube to keep us occupied.
And habits can be broken and new habits can be developed, go to http://www.habitbustingsystem.com to check out a great program that can help you start to make your habits serve you instead of hinder you.
I am curious of what you think about this subject.
As always here’s to your LifetoSuccess,

Wow, this is one of the best blogs I have read. We often talk and think about blocking out negative thoughts but very seldom do we think of filtering out the noise. Filtering takes away a lot of the negative seeds. Nice post.

You are so right! Now I think I could add several more to this list… email, YouTube (do I really need to watch all those videos?), spam (email, blog comments etc.), the internet in general, my cluttered desk, telemarketers calling my home AND business line.
Main point is to reduce the noise by turning these things OFF as much as possible. I am always amazed when I go on vacation for a week, don’t check email and realize just how few of them are really important!
